Hello again friends!
Today’s blog will a bit different from what I’ve previously posted. In this blog, I will talk about a word that devolved a different meaning because of internet exposure throughout the years. The purpose of this blog is to show that in time, words will have a different meaning in the internet. You can take a guess on what word I will be talking about for this blog.
I think it is safe to say that growing up, we used to think the word “troll” would mean a big, scary looking monster that lives in the forest somewhere. Thinking about a troll back then, meant a scary monster, but now it means something different, thanks to the wonderful power of the internet. The word “troll” now means a guy/girl that causes problems on the internet. I remember when I first got exposed to this word with its new meaning. I was playing a video game with a few buddies of mine, and this guy was being a real jackass, and decide to kill the fun in what my friends and I were doing. Then one of my friends called the guy a troll, and I thought it was funny because he called him a monster. But then I found out what it really meant when typed in the word “troll” on google. The definition of troll is as goes, “In internet slang, a troll is a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the internet…”.
So there you have it, a word that changed because of the internet. There are many other words that have changed as well thanks to the internet, but if I were to name all of the words with their new meaning, I will be typing for a very long time. But that was one funny word that got a different meaning. Please don’t be a troll.
